Remember, not all concrete contractors are the same. Concrete mixes with larger coarse aggregate will shrink and crack less. For big projects, concrete contractors are generally aware of the amount of concrete that would be put to use on a particular day. Leaving small openings in the concrete for flowers or trees is usually a bad idea.
